Working with addictions(alcohol, drugs, food, sex, smoking) is one of her specialties, plus assisting with pain management, healing, stress and emotional management of physical and emotional problems such as cancer,MS, hospice and combat PTSD, to name a few. Finally, in 2007, Sally became a legally ordained minister with the Universal Life Church, available for marriage, baptisms, and funeral ceremonies.

She is a member of the National Guild of Hypnotist and the American Nurses Association/California. In 2008, Sally became a Light Practitioner of Sukyo Mahikari, a very high level esoteric spiritual practice that incorporates an intense form of healing light energy, much like Reiki or Therapeutic Touch, but much more powerful. She has extensive experience teaching drug and alcohol, dui, domestic violence, anger and stress management, plus nursing, public, and home health topics , to individuals and groups of all ages.

In 2004, Sally taught art at the Truckee Alternative School, for at-risk teenagers. This program can be adjusted to fit a school setting as well and is available to use free of charge.

"I feel my mission here is to assist in healing, using all approbriate modalities, whether from traditional Western medecine or my strong Native American and metaphysical roots. Bringing beauty and healing into the world in any form is a high calling, I think. I see myself as an alternative spiritual healer, a wave of the future. I hope to see more and more a blending of alternative healing, that addresses the holistic mind, body, and spirit, with traditonal Western Medical Practice. There is a time and place for both. Those under a Medical Doctor or Psychiatrist care are encouraged to continue while utilizing an alternative practice as mine, for optimal healing and comfort."

Sally's office is now open in Sparks, NV. Office hours are by appointment.

Sally's writing credentials include articles for "CONNECT" magazine, Reno, NV and BALANCED LIFE, Sacramento, CA., on health and healing. In August/September 2008, her article on "Visualization and Hypnosis in Diabetic Amputation" was published in the American Nurses Association/California official newspaper. She is very excited about this - mainstream is starting to trully recognize and see the value in alternatives. Our patients will be the benefactors. She also wrote an organic gardening column for 4 years for a local newspaper.on health, art and healing. She wrote an organic gardening newspaper column for 4 years. In addition she wrote freelance for the LANCASTER FARMING newspaper, and for FARMSTEAD MAGAZINE, on organic gardening, herbs, greenhouses and woodstoves.

" I am an intense, high energy person who loves the diversity and exploring new frontiers, where ever that leads."

The Healing Power of Art, copyright Sally Mitchell, 2008

I rediscovered my art when my children were small and my first marriage was on the rocks.  I remember vividly the day I painted one particular watercolor –one lone dove flying toward the sun, into the light and out of the darkness.  That painting helped me make a very painful decision to leave my unhappy, stifling marriage.  I packed us up and left that same day.  I titled the painting “Freedom.”  I have it still.

I realized over time that during my most difficult periods in life, I painted my most powerful pieces.  My colors are very strong the emotion is powerful.  All of my artwork has a story behind it.  Sometimes I didn’t realize what the story and the piece really meant at the time, but in time, the meaning was revealed to me.

My most important spiritual piece to date is a very large acrylic paint, “Psalm 142, Thou Art My Refuge.” Tremendous healing and peace came through for me as I painted.  Angels, many animal beings and people of all cultures emerged on the canvas. The painting emerged in honor of my ex-husband Dan, his combat experience, and in honor of the troops now in the Middle East.

I don’t agree with the current war, but honor our men and women who serve. Combat PTSD was the core issue of the emotional pain and grief behind this painting, as my ex-husband and I struggled in our relationship.  After two days of painting, I opened my Bible, looking for meaning, and the page I turned to was “Thou Art My Refuge.”  Tears welled in my eyes.  The painting hangs today next to my front door as guardian.  It has deep meaning for me. Not everyone see the angels and the other beings in this painting.  To some it looks like a colorful abstract.  To others, they see what I see..the angels and other beings.  Ultimately, it only matters that I see them.

The choice of colors is instinctive, and means one thing: painting fast and loose or careful with detail, yet another.  The theme means still something else.  Each painting tells its own story.  Stormy or calm- happy, angry or sad.

So, as a practicing healer, I took my love of art and healing, into the prison system.  My group was an art therapy group for chemically addicted inmates, based on the AA/NAs 12 steps.  My Art Therapy Program is described in detail on my website, under my bio-easily adapted to schools, inpatient/outpatient groups, and prisons.

I based my group on the premise of Brief Therapy. “Draw me your past, what brought you to prison, then draw me your present. Now visualize where you want to go in the future.”  One inmate carefully drew a mountain horse ranch, right down to the last nail.  “Now,” I said, How do you get there?”   His first plan of action, have all his gang tattoos removed so he would be able to get a good job.  And so began his healing through the terrible world of methamphetamine abuse into healing, a plan of action, and hope.

This is a snapshot of SPIRIT, a beautiful little one year old filly. Some wonderful little angel children got together and raised money to buy her pregnant mother off the slaughter truck. The foundation children were able to save several other pregnant mares. Spirit was born on the Grace Foundation Ranch. She, and several others, are up for adoption. She is one of the lucky ones.

The GRACE FOUNDATION - a nonprofit organization in partnership with the greater Sacramento community, business, and government, also committed to the protection and rescue of abused and neglected animals. On this 600 acre ranch, near Folsom, CA, 100 plus head of horses, donkeys, sheep, llamas, dogs, and cats live in peace and safety. Some horses, sheep, and llamas are now up for adoption. They teach riding, need donations to feed the animals, need volunteers to help care for the animals, and run a riding program for special needs children.
